Today, SoundCloud has announced that they signed a deal with Merlin, a global independent music rights agency. With this deal, SoundCloud will be able to host the music of popular indie artists such as FKA Twigs and Bon Iver.
According to SoundCloud founder Alexander Ljung, artists will receive royalties through this deal. “Independent creators have always been at the core of SoundCloud, and with this partnership we’re thrilled to extend new revenue-generating opportunities to thousands of independent labels.”, Alexander Ljung said.
With a recently introduced advertisement revenue system and plans on changing to a new monthly subscription system, the SoundCloud that users have come to know will soon be a thing of the past.
