According to Nintendo’s latest third quarter financial reports, in less than a year the Nintendo Switch has managed to outsell the lifetime sales of Nintendo’s previous home console the Nintendo Wii U. The record breaking success of the Nintendo Switch accompanied by many other factors has brought Nintendo’s net profit to ¥135,165 million (~$1.24 billion). This is the highest net profit Nintendo has earned for the October-December period since the year 2009.
“The momentum for Switch over the last 10 months has been stronger than that of the Wii,” said Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima. As of December 31, 2017, the Nintendo Switch has sold approximately 15 million units of hardware. The top selling titles are Super Mario Odyssey at 9.07 million units of software, Mario Kart 8 at 7.33 million units of ware software, and The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild at 6.70 units of software.
Nintendo fans can also look forward to the launch of Nintendo’s online subscription service for the Switch in September. The price for the service is currently slated at $3.99 per month or $19.99 per year.
